How can you incentivize your child to study?

5 Tips to incentivize your child to study:

1. Ownership-From a young age, help your child to feel proud of achievements in school. Every A should be celebrated. The most successful students are the SELF motivated ones.

2. Environment-Create the right environment for your child. This includes everything from the right school, group of friends, and home environment. When selecting a high school, prioritize academics and college admissions criteria. Make sure your child has a quiet place to study at home. Reduce stress all around by making sure your child is not involved in too many extra-curricular activities.

3. Reality check-We suggest to all parents of high school students to visit one or two colleges even in freshman year. This will get your high schooler excited about college. All college websites list average GPAs and SAT/ACT scores of admitted applicants. These are great reminders for what your child will need to achieve.

4. Bribes-although we are all hesitant about bribes, they do work for some kids. In our SAT classes, we give $10 Itunes gift cards to the students who win the pop quizzes. Amazingly, this does incentivize some children.

5. Find mentors-Find older high school students, college students, or young professionals to speak with your high schooler about the importance of grades.
