The SAT is Changing. Here are 10 Things to Know about the New Redesigned SAT

Topic Realignment
Vocab All vocabulary questions will be in context. The words will be drawn primarily from high school Tier Two lists in line with the Common Core standards.
Reading Comprehension Each test will feature passages from primary sources. This marks one of the most important changes on the test.
Writing and Grammar All writing and grammar questions will be integrated into the Critical Reading test. Students will be asked to rewrite some question, correct errors in context, and understand how word choice affects tone.
The SAT Essay The SAT essay will require scholarly analysis of a document. Students will know how 50 minutes to complete the essay instead of the current 25 min.
Math Topics-Calculations The new test will feature a section with no calculator. Students will need to master equation solving and arithmetic skills to excel on this section
Data analysis Data analysis will have a heavy emphasis on the new test both in reading comprehension and mathematics
Applied Math Students will be required to analyze data and relate linear equations with graphical depictions. Mathematics questions will be applied to the natural sciences and social sciences.
Algebra and Geometry The “Heart of Algebra” section of the new Redesigned SAT math test will largely continue the SAT’s legacy of a strong emphasis on knowledge of functions, graphing, and applied equation solving. Solid and Shape based Geometry will be in line with the current test. There will be additional trigonometry content on the new test.
Scoring The new score will be out of 1600 with a separate score for the essay. There will also be several subscores.
Superscoring There have been no announced changes on the part of colleges in regards to superscoring. We believe that most schools will continue to superscore, taking the highest Critical Reading and highest math scores from each test a student takes.
