ACT Review Guide
The ACT is only a few days away! Here is what you should review:
- English
- Review On the Lookout and TSG Grammar Rules the morning of the test
- Reading
- Do NOT be surprised if you see a 2 passage comparison as one of the 4 passages on the test day
- Make sure you underline as you read
- Spend 2 minutes reading each passage and 6 minutes/10 questions for regular time
- Number theory
- Probability(success)=#successes/total
- Permutations and Combinations
- Permutations is like setting up blanks; order matters; ABC is not the same as BCA
- Combinations-order does not matter-use the calculator
- Multiplication and addition rules
- Multiply for and; add for or
- Algebra
- You CAN solve a linear function of 2 variables (x+y) or (x-y) even if you only have 2 equations
- Slope: ; as m increases, slope gets STEEPER
- Logarithm Rules
- What does this mean??? 2 to what power is 64….8
- Trigonometry
- Sohcahtoa
- Inverse sin/cos/tan; Use inverse functions( ) when you are looking for the angles!
- Law of sines
- Law of cosines

- How many degrees are there in any 4 sided figure? -360
- What is the formula for the total degree measure in any polygon? (n-2)*180
- What is the formula for the measure of 1 angle in a regular polygon?
- Look for the SPECIAL triangles (3-4-5, 5-12-13, 8-15-17, 7-24-25)
- Volume of a rectangular solid=l*w*h
- Volume of a cube=
- Volume of a sphere:
- Volume of a cylinder:How many cones are in a cylinder? 3
- Volume (small)*n=Volume (large) where n is the number of smalls that fit in the large. This same formula can be modified for Area or Length
- Circles
- Graphing a circle/finding center where the center is (h,k) and r is the radius
- Area and Circumference
- Area and Circumference of sectors

- Ellipses: sum to 1(+); Hyperbolas (-); Review completing the square
- Vertex of a parabola: y= a(x-h)2+k
- Essay: Write as much as you can. Try to get to the 4th Think of arguments for and against the prompt. Present both sides
- Aim for a 9 paragraph essay: Intro, 4 paragraphs supporting your side, 3 explaining the other side, conclusion. Make sure your conclusion has 3-4 sentences at least.
Extra Tips:
- Stay calm on the test day!
- Remember how prepared you are.
- Go to bed early the night before.
- Eat a big breakfast
- Bring #2 pencils (not mechanical), your ID and entry ticket
- Plan something fun to do after the test.
