If possible, begin preparation right before a school break so you can get as much practice when you start working with one of our instructors. Use any day off or snow day as a practice day to get in as many extra hours of prep as you can. The best feeling is to go into the test day knowing that you did everything you could to prepare. There are concepts on these tests that you may have seen five years ago and some that you never learned at all. No matter how frustrated you may be, don’t give up. Stick with it. Talk to a friend who is also studying for the same test as you. Ask a parent to quiz you on vocabulary or math formulas. Finding the FOCUS to work on college essays can be difficult; find a quiet place and start drafting.

This method of procrastination will not help you for the SAT or the ACT. Consistency is key. If you can, you should plan a regular study schedule. For a few months, however, you may have to skip that movie or dinner out with your friends to stay home and study. Trust us, when you are at the college of your dreams, these few months of sacrifice will be worth it.

Nevertheless, some of the biggest breakthroughs in your learning can come from your own struggle and perseverance through a challenging concept or problem. If you get to a math problem that you can’t figure out, don’t stop. Try to do it over and over again in different ways. This is not a waste of time. This is how you learn.
