5 Math Tips to raise your score on the SAT & ACT

Follow these 5 math tips to improve your score!

1. Don’t get stuck on one problem. If you notice you are wasting too much time on one problem, mark it and skip it. Come back to the problem when you have extra time at the end. All questions weigh the same amount so try to figure out all the easy ones as quickly as possible.

2. Plug in answers. Sometimes plugging in the answer choices is the easiest way to solve a problem. If you are stumped on how to approach the problem, always just try working backwards with the answers.

3. Underline information. Many problems, specifically geometry problems, will be dense with information. Try to underline or label the information as you get it as to not miss any important facts. This can help you process all the information and bring you to an answer quicker.

4. Practice using your calculator. Don’t fumble around on test day trying to figure out how to cube a number on your calculator. Make sure you are familiar with how to perform complicated operations on your device so you can be quick and swift.

5. Avoid silly mistakes. You won’t have time to double check every problem. As you are going through the test, work quickly but pay attention to what you are doing to avoid simple mistakes like addition and subtraction errors. If you stay focused, you will avoid these.
